The New Historicism and Shakespeare in Love
To me the most evident example of the New Historcism shown in Shakespeare in Love was that, "the text is not the creation of an author-genuis who creates meaningful patterns, but the collabrative construction of many people..." This is shown in many places throughout the video when Shakespeare uses direct quotes from conversations he had with other people in his plays. For example, in the beginning when he is in the tavern with Will Kempe Kempe sarcastically talks about Shakespeare's upcomming play and Shakespeare uses his ideas later in his play. The most clear example of this is shown later in the video when Shakespeare and Viola are intimately together and speaking to each other and then, the next day, many of those exact quotes appeared in the play. Burbage also had a role in how the play was presented becasue he seemed to alter and somewhat dictate parts of the play every so often(since he owned the curtain it was somewhat easy, which also illustrates the power of class and money). In the end, the queen had a tremendous role on his next play as well as she told him what to write, The Twelvth Night, which Shakespeare was shown beginning in the last scene which was going to be written about Viola (this once again shows Viola's part in the writting of his plays). There are countless other examples but these were just a few that I noticed while watching this video.
